Cashless vs reimbursement
Cashless
Your insurer or TPA settles the approved amount directly with the hospital. It works only if the hospital is in that insurer’s network and pre-authorisation is approved. You still pay non-medical items, deductions and anything outside your policy.
Reimbursement
You pay the hospital and claim from your insurer afterwards. Keep the original itemised bill, discharge summary, all reports, prescriptions and payment receipts - claims are most often delayed by missing paperwork.
How the cashless process runs
- Tell us at admission that you intend to use insurance, and show your health card and photo ID.
- Pre-authorisation is raised by the hospital to your insurer or TPA with the diagnosis and estimated cost.
- The insurer responds with an approval, a query or a rejection. Planned admissions should allow 24-48 hours; emergencies are raised immediately and treatment is never delayed for paperwork.
- Treatment proceeds while the approved amount is tracked against the running bill.
- At discharge you settle non-payable items, co-payment or deductions, sign the claim form, and the balance is billed to the insurer.
An insurer can decline or reduce a claim for reasons outside the hospital’s control - waiting periods, policy exclusions, non-disclosure or an incomplete policy. Please keep funds available as a fallback until approval comes through.
